I pray...

I pray that what is being discussed in this acticle does not become reality but it is what I feared. It is why I didn't vote for Obama and encouraged others not too as well. According to some aides some of his first acts when taking office is to overturn executive orders put in place by President Bush. First to fund embryonic stem cell research. Second to repeal limits on what other countries can do with federal funding, in other words our tax money will be allowed to fund abortions overseas. For those who tried to tell me that President Bush didn't do anything to help the Pro Life cause. I think you have been proved wrong by Obama. Unfortunately it appears that Obama has a pro abortion agenda and he is not going to be shy about it. I pray this doesn't happen. This upsets me on so many levels. I don't even have the energy to discuss right now. But just so anyone reading may want to know how I feel. Josh and I have an appointment on December 8th to begin the process of embyo adoption. The same embyros that Obama wants to destroy through funding are our hope as an infertile couple for being able to provide our daughter with siblings and a chance for these embryos to have life. If we are so blessed to become parents through embyro adoption you can bet the first person that will be sent pictures of our newborn baby(s) will be President Elect Obama. Maybe then he'll get it.

It is Done

Now that the election is over, I have had some time to react, reflect and grapple with the outcome. I am very disappointed in the outcome but the country voted and 5% more of America decided that Barack Obama should be our new president. I am not really surprised in the outcome. I knew it would have taken a miracle for anyone other than Obama to be elected but I was hoping and praying for a miracle. I trust that God has a plan for this and I in the days to come am finding ways to move on. I congratulate President Elect Obama for his victory. I am glad that our country was able to show that we are not a racist country and electing a biracial president is a step forward. But I would challenge President Elect Obamas comments the other night about not having to wonder if anything is possible in America. Electing a biracial president was a big deal but we still have barriers. We have not elected a woman. And before this year I was one of those people who were pretty pessimistic about there being sexism. I am no longer pessimistic. I believe that we have a long way to go in this department. And I am not just talking about the treatment of Sarah Palin, I am also talking about the treatment of Hillary Clinton. I do not agree with Senator Clintons views and probably would not vote for her but I think in her and in Sarah Palin we have been given to pieces of evidence that sexism is alive and well in the U.S.A. I hope that one day these barriers can be torn down too.

I also have to say that I am disappointed in our country. I am not disappointed that we elected someone who has a different skin color than the majority of our country. Like I said, I think that is a great step forward. But I am disappointed that this man to many people was not judged by his character but by the color of his skin. He was not in my opinion elected by some because of his character but some pulled the lever for him because of his color. I am not saying that everyone did this but the fact that anyone in our country would is as disheartening as the fact that someone wouldn't pull the lever for someone of color if they beleived in their good character and what they stood for. I personally would be happy to pull the lever for any candidate who shares my views no matter what their race, color, age, sex or creed is. I didn't pull the lever for Obama. Not becuase of his color but because of his character which I believe I have reason to question. And because I don't agree with most of his policies.

In my previous blog posts I have talked about some of my objections to Obama. I am not backing down on them. I will respect him as my President because I am told to do so as a Christian. I feel I must respect him but he is going to have to earn my trust. As an aside, I would like to also challenge anyone reading to think about this with respect to our current President. I have seen so much hatred and disrepect spewn out about President Bush. I will be the first to admit that I don't agree with everything he has done. And I wouldn't expect to agree with any other President completely, they are humans after all. But I am frankly disgusted with how disrespectful people are to President Bush. As a Christian you are called to respect those in authority. It does not mean that you need to agree with them but you do need to respect them. The man has served our country as President during some very tough times. He has kept our country free from attack for 7 years. He has made great strides in helping throughout the world. And you know what us citizens don't know what goes on behind those closed doors. When President Elect Obama walks through the White House doors and gets the inside information, I am sure he will see things differently than he does now as a citizen or even as a senator.

But anyway back to my point. Obama does need to earn my trust. I am honestly disgusted with what he was able to get away with in the campaign. He was not treated fairly becuase he was not pressed about the tough questions. Journalism in our country is in a sad state and quite frankly it is frightening. You see that in other tyranical countries, not in America. And I think we saw that in this election. Americans were not given an opportunity to cast a vote for a fair election because fair treatment was not given and truthful information was not given. I have never seen double standards before like I saw in this election. Senator Obama attended a racist church for 20 years and he was able to just dissaociate himslef from that once running for president. He was not questioned. He was not pressed. If John McCain had attended a church like that he would not have standed a chance. But the media decided to spend more time attacking Govenor Palin for her clothes and shoes than they did on Senator Obama's background, assocations and voting record. They decided to listen to his speeches and not look beyond them. I have seen other leaders be elected for the same reason and it was disaster. I am not calling Obama Hitler but the similarities in their rise to power are startling. I am disappointed that our media and our citizens were not willing to vet this candidate who was just elected to the highest office. I for one bypassed the mainstream media and sought out my own information on him. I looked up what a communtiy organizer was, I looked up his voting record, I listened to speeches and unscriped interviews. And I believe I was discerning in what i found. I found somone who I could never vote for. I saw a man who called himself a Christian and then behind closed doors or in front of certain audiences he bad mouthed Christians, he mocked the Bible and mocked those who had different views from him. I am still very disturbed with how he mocked an American citizen named Joe Wurzelbacher when Joe asked a question and Senator Obama let an unscripted answer slip. The type of attack that Joe received from the media and from the Obama campaign was something you should never see happen in America and I hope that those sorts of attacks don't happen in the future. I saw a man who had an extremely liberal voting record which was not even questioned.

I disagree with the policies of President Elect Obama but for the sake of the country I hope that he can suceed. I hope that he really does work to be my presidnet as well even though I didn't vote for him. I am not happy with the appointments he has made which already indicate that he will be more partisan than bi partisan. But I will give him a chance and hope that he is able to do what he claims he wants to do with respect to uniting to move our country forward. I intend to hold him and our other representiives in DC accountable. I will be watching the legislature and making my voice heard when I am not in agreement or when I see signs of corruption and partisanship.

I am looking forward to being more involved in my community and more aware of our government. If I have learned anything from all of this, it is that in order to be discerning I have to be informed. I encourage everyone else to do the same.

I am glad that the election if over. I am looking forward to seeing what God is calling me to do. I believe I am being called to do more than I am currently doing but the picture is not clear quite of yet of what that will look like. I have been inspired that my life can and will make a difference, if I allow God to use me. I know that has always been true but I have been inspired further by seeing God raise up one of his daughters to a national platform. I hope to follow in her footsteps with the grace that she has shown. Who knows where God will take me. Maybe one day my name will be on a ballot too.
